FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need anything else to setup my Proflex besides what comes in the box?
Yes you do...We do not to include the fabric bars or template boards; you will get them locally.
Why don't we include them?... good ol' common sense!
The
shipping costs alone on 10ft fabric bars (the most commonly desired
size) would be 3 or 4 times more than the cost of the bars themselves AND
you'd be limited only to the sizes we carried. Since they're so cheap
and easy to get locally from any hardware store like Home Depot, Lowes,
etc. or any electrical supply store we thought you'd rather save the
money and get exactly the size that YOU want.
10ft
lengths are standard in the electrical industry (which is convenient
since, like we said, it's the ideal size for most people) but longer
lengths (up to 24ft!) are available through many fencing suppliers.
Depending on your setup (there are a few different ways to setup the
machine depending on your preferences, remember it's not called the Proflex for nothing!) you will need a minimum of 5 lengths and a maximum of 8 lengths of conduit.
The bars you'll be looking for are 1-1/2 inch outside diameter BUT are commonly referred to as 1-1/4 inch Electrical Conduit (because 1-1/4 inch is the common inside
diameter) and they typically sell for $7 to $12 per 10ft length. All
the details are in the extensive manual which is FULL of detailed
pictures making assembly super easy!
If
you also want to follow paper patterns or use templates like the
Quilt-EZ type you will also need template support boards. These are
best made from 1/2 inch thick MDF, chip board or Plywood. They should
usually be 2 pieces that are 19.25 inches wide and when put together
end-to-end are the same length as your bars (above).
EVERYTHING ELSE is included in box to setup for ANY size sewing machine! |

Does
the Proflex work with stitch regulators like the Quilters Cruise
Control and the ones available for the Nolting Fun Quilter, Prodigy,
etc?
Absolutely. The ProFlex was designed with stitch regulators and encoders in mind.
The standard ProFlex
is the ONLY frame on the market that is Quilters Cruise Control Ready
right out of the box. The QCC stitch regulator is so inexpensive and
works so well with so many different sewing machines (including
Bernina, Juki, Brother, Babylock, Singer and even Mid-Arms like
Noltings, Prodigy, Voyager, etc.), we decided that every ProFlex
would be "QCC Ready". The QCC encoders just slip into the windows cut
into the carriages like you see in the picture and bolt into the
threaded inserts. The expensive and delicate encoders are protected
from damage on all sides. Ask Quilters Cruise Control, they recommend
the Proflex to all their customers.
If
you're thinking about the Nolting FunQuilter, HobbyQuilter or any of
the Nolting Mid-Arms; we have a carriage designed for their machines
and their encoders too. All you have to do is ask when you order and
we'll substitute the Nolting top and bottom carriages for the standard
QCC carriages at no extra charge.
For
all other stitch regulators just give us a call toll free at
1-877-837-5557. If we don't support it yet, we may be willing to
engineer one at no charge to you just so we can offer it in our
inventory! |
Does
the tabletop SuperQuilter assemble AND break down easily for portability?
Yes. It's
actually very easy to break down. Just pull out the 6 ball lock pins,
slide out the fabric bars and it's ready to go (unlike some machines
that are mostly taped together). You can break down the sides further
if you wish by removing the 4 knobs but it's easier to carry with the
sides assembled. The longest part is the fabric bars at 69".
Are
there written instructions for your frames and/or a video? Any pictures?
The SuperQuilter
comes with step-by-step written instructions complete with very clear
diagrams and lots of photos in the Proflex manual. A video is in the works.
Is
the tabletop SuperQuilter adjustable in size?
Yes! The
SuperQuilter comes with 3 sets of fabric bars. 2 sets of 69" bars
and one set of 24" bars. With one set of 69" bars it fits
exactly on a 6 foot (72") folding table. With one set of 69"
and the 24" set joined together using the supplied joiner bars
it fits exactly on an 8 foot (96") table. Join the 2 sets of 69"
bars together and you have an unbelievable 135.5" of quilting space
that fits nicely on 2 x 6 foot tables!
Quilting
small items on a larger setup is no problem, in fact it makes it easier
since the extra room at the sides makes changing bobbins even easier!
The fabric tensioning clips have a generous amount of stretch cord and
can easily stretch 2.5 feet in per side so even table runners on a 6
foot setup are no problem.
Are
the acrylic tracks on the tabletop SuperQuilter somehow also adjustable when changing to the larger
bars?
The standard
acrylic tracks are 68" long. When working a section you simply
work to the end, stop the machine needle down, hold the carriage with
one hand and slide the front track all the way to the other side, do
the same with the back track and continue on. It actually takes longer
to read this explanation than it does to actually slide the tracks.
For those
who are using the SuperQuilter in a semi-commercial fashion (as quite
a few are) we offer 8 foot and 10 foot tracks as an option. However, after a few hours practice most people have
no problems with the standard tracks and we would strongly urge new users
to spend a few weeks with the regular tracks before you consider investing
in the long tracks.
Is
the Original SuperQuilter large enough and strong enough to handle the larger
"WOW" machines with the 16" throats?
Yes some
SuperQuilter owners are using a "WOW" or similar stretched machine BUT REMEMBER
the front-to-back travel on the bottom carriage of the Original SQ is
11 inches so you will not get the full 16" of travel. This is not
really an issue however since you lose about 2" to 3" of your 16"
because you have the fabric bar and the rolled up quilt inside your
throat space anyway. Many believe that the #1 reason for buying a large
throated (15" to 16") machine is to ensure that you will always have at
least 10" of free motion from beginning to end.
However...a Proflex would be a better choice for anything over 10" in throat depth.
