WHAT OWNERS HAVE TO SAY...
I was really leaning towards the Hinterberg... and had gotten the choices down to them or the ProFlex. Finally I made a Pro/Con list. I certainly didn't like the posts that pointed out how the carriage fell off the conduits sometimes on the Hinterberg. ... I wanted to be able to use my Brother 1500 until I was proficient with it and could see where a mid arm would be an advantage. I wanted the drop front so I could get close to my needle working end and I wanted to be able to stand at the frame as well as sit. With all that said, I had originally planned to purchase the standard Hinty w/leg extenders (it's a sitting model) and then later get the extension kit for the larger machine should I choose to go that way. But there was the carriage [falling off] concern. Then (and this was the deal breaker) I saw in the [hinterberg] fine print that if I put a mid-arm extension on the standard Hinty [which comes standard with the Proflex] I couldn't use the leg extensions which would mean I'd be back to sitting only. If I purchased their stretch frame to begin with I'd have to add the handles [which also comes standard with the Proflex] and my smaller machine would be farther away from my eyes on the (front) needle side and it's 41" wide! That's a lot of width. My current set-up is 36" I got an email today from Hinty telling me they were making a carriage with 8 bearings (2 on each corner) for an additional $75 to elimate the tipping off the rails. Well they didn't say that, they said it was to set it up with a SR. With the ProFlex I can sit, stand, work close to the 9" harp and move it back for a 16"-17" harp. It's 36" wide and it has 16 sets of bearings. The only thing I really didn't care for was the wooden handles, which I noticed are very adjustable and I figured I could learn to live with them a lot easier than the other problems I kept running into with the Hinty. I will have to buy a speed controller at some point, but that's ok. Have a Merry Christmas - Mine will be exciting to say the least! Gail A. - Fort Gibson, OK UPDATE: Hi Marlene: I'm sending a photo of the frame completely up! Just waiting for me to make leaders and add the machine. I decided on a length of 8' knowing if I ever find I'm doing a lot of larger quilts I can make a new set of rails. Everything went together just as the instructions said they would. Not one problem! I did the whole job myself except when I sat the first rail into the sides. My husband held the rail while I got them attached to the sides. Thank you for a quality piece of furniture that will compliment my sewing room. Can't wait to get the first fabric sandwich on those poles and turn on the power! Thanks Again Gail My wife's Proflex frame arrived yesterday and I must say that I was rather disappointed that there was nothing that I had to fix or modify to assemble it... All kidding aside, (I had to do this after reading the humor in your manual) would you please give the people in your manufacturing department an "Attaboy" (Kentucky for GREAT JOB). The fit and finish was beyond my expectations. As a long time woodworker I must admit that when I first saw the pictures of the frame I thought to myself "I can make something like this, after all it isn't anything more than Baltic birch plywood and common hardware". Then after adding up all of the costs involved and the time it would take to construct by trial and error I decided that it would be more cost effective to just order it. I am glad I did because to duplicate the quality of finish on this frame has would have never been achievable, even with all the woodworking tools I own. Thanks for all your help. Bill F. - Kentucky The assembly of the Proflex frame went very smoothly - the instructions were very clear... and entertaining!... I am just about finished the first quilt on the Proflex...I love the way the quilt is loaded and the way the tensioning system allows more precise adjustment than my old ratchet and pawl system did. This is especially important to me as I am quilting with the smaller throat Brother PQ1500. Deborah B. - Kansas City, Missouri
As soon as I saw the photos of your frame, I knew that was the system for me... "I helped
my girlfriend set up one of your competitors frames, a HandiQuilter, in January and was dismayed to see all the
adjustments and modifications it required just to make it work as advertised. I have limited
space and my system will be on display in a section of my livingroom,
the SuperQuilter is quite beautiful in addition to the obvious quality
that was built in." Yvonne - NYC I am in heaven, I am so pleased... The frame is finished, set up and working. I absolutely love it! I have finished a baby quilt and I am in heaven, I am so pleased. This is what I was looking for all those years ago when I bought my Juki. I will be in touch. and thank you again. PS I bought the QCC and it is a big help. Wendy B - Brownsburg, Quebec I am amazed at how easy it is to roll on the quilt and how touch sensitive it is... "I'm speechless - well, almost. Having bought my SQ mail order and never having seen one except in photos on this site, I was just a bit worried. Don't know why 'cos today I set it up without a hitch and have started to practise with wandering, straight rows and some script. Much of this is due to all the tips and advice I've gathered from postings read (on the Yahoo Group List) while waiting for delivery... YIPPEE I'm away....." I am quilting my first quilt on my Proflex and it's lookin' good... " I went
from my Gammill Classic [long arm quilting machine] I just sold two
weeks ago to this and I am very pleased to say I really love it... Very simple." I find that it works very well and is very sturdy, much sturdier than the HQ... [handiquilter] "I have had
my Superquilter for about 3 weeks now. In fact a friend with
the HQ wishes that she had waited a little longer before buying the
HQ ..." I changed my mind and now I'm really glad I did... "I want to
thank all the ladies that sent in information about the Proflex
[on the Yahoo! Groups List] as it really helped me make
up my mind... I had tried the HQ and was comfortable with it but when
I saw all the info on the Proflex and your input, I changed my
mind and now I'm really glad I did! " I am sooo happy with my SuperQuilter frame. I am currently set up on a 6 foot banquet table and using my Bernina 1031. Yesterday I had quality time using my SQ. I loaded up two crib size quilts and machine basted for hand quilting later. Then I loaded a muslin practice piece. To my surprise I had the most success with a simple picture I used as a pantograph. It was so much fun! Jean Today after 5 pm they delivered my SuperQuilter... I had it set up and leaders on before 6 PM.... It went very smooth....I had no trouble putting the fabric on. 3 hours later I
had a 45x 45 Quilt, quilted, bound and ready to give to community service.
It isn't perfect and it will not win any awards, but.. I am in LOVE.....
Dixie An update... Dixie Last night we finished setting up the Proflex and my Brother1500. This morning DH [Darling Husband] insisted I do a test run before he left. We're both impressed. The quality and engineering is exceptional. The carriage is very smooth, it needs but a light touch and it glides beautifully. Irene |
